Cushion Stitch
This is a stitch normally worked on canvas, but would work on any evenweave fabric as long as a frame is used. Take care when working this stitch to make sure all the threads lie flat and smooth.
Cushion Stitch
Step 1
Start work at the top left hand corner of the area to be filled. Come up at 1 and go down at 2 (going over one intersection of fabric), up at 3, down at 4 (going over two intersections of fabric), up at 5, down at 6 (three intersections of fabric).
Step 1
Step 2 Step 2
Repeat this diagonal stitch until you have the size desired, then make shorter stitches to compete the square.
Step 3
Once you have worked the first square the following ones may be worked in diagonal lines or in horizontal or vertical rows. You can have all the stitches lying in the same direction or alternating. Try alternating the thread colour and textures.
