About This Design
This design uses the modern approach, leaving some canvas uncovered. Chose your colours to suit your taste. |

| What You Need | - 10 count needlepoint canvas 15cm square.
- Paints - Brusho, water-soluble crayons or acrylic paints.
- Space dyed mercerised cotton (8m skein).
- Metallic chainette (8m skein).

| How To Make The Design | | - Paint the canvas with whichever paint you have chosen. Remember that only acrylic paint will withstand any washing. Leave to dry.
- Start by stitching the cushion stitch squares using two lengths of the mercerised cotton together in the needle. To get the effect shown the two lengths were matched so the colour changes in each thread occurred in the same place. The large squares go over four threads, the smaller ones over two (see the stitch dictionary).
- Next add the half cross stitch using the chainette. Work a complete row around the outside and then some of the lines within the motif, leaving some areas unstitched.
- Finally backstitch the lines between the squares in the top left and bottom right corners.
