This Fuchsia flowers hand embroidery design came about as a result of an exercise ironing real Fuchsia flowers flat! The process of ironing made the flowers lose all their colour but gave some nice outlines of the flower shapes. The design is worked on calico and uses layers of silk leaves and stitched flowers, separated by layers of silk chiffon which creates the illusion of depth. The embroidery threads are all readily available stranded cottons, however the fabrics were specially dyed and painted for this project. Stitches used include satin stitch, straight stitch, French knots and running stitch.
