This free-motion machine embroidery sample was worked on hot water dissolvable fabric and shows how cords can be incorporated into machine embroidery. A base of stitches was first made by moving the fabric in a circular motion. Twisted embroidery threads and a piece of piping cord were then couched down with machine stitches and the fabric dissolved.
Where the initial circular stitches did not cross one another often enough largish holes appear in the finished fabric creating a cobweb like effect.
The circular pattern of the stitch on this piece causes the fabric to distort and ripple giving the piece a textural quality. The fabrics are all hand painted silks.
