The principal stitch in this piece is Norwich stitch. The stitch diagrams for this stitch always look complicated, but once mastered this stitch is quite straight forward and can be effectively varied in quite a number of ways, although here it is used quite simply.
Other stitches are incomplete Moorish stitch, woven cross stitch, rice stitch and trammed satin stitch. The threads used accentuate the variety of textures created by the stitches. Thick cotton perle and smooth shiny rayon are just two of the threads used.
